With the FedEx Cup winding down to its final weeks of the 2026 season, some of the PGA Tour’s best will head to the beautifully picturesque Yokohama Country Club in Japan for the Baycurrent Classic, beginning today and concluding on Saturday. With an $8 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points up for grabs, the tournament organizers have attracted a substantial field featuring some of golf’s best players from across the globe.
For those of us keen to watch an elite field compete against the backdrop of Mount Fuji, on a track with some unusually challenging obstacles, there is the added incentive of seeing true fireworks in real time.
Fireworks, that is, in the shape of a colossal drive from some of the game’s longest hitters, including Australia’s Min Woo Lee, who, at a 323.2 yard driving average, is among the longest hitters on the PGA Tour. Also in the field are two time U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, who averages 313.3 yards, and the popular, multiple time PGA Tour winner Tony Finau, who averages just under 312 yards.
These guys, and several others, will have the flag in their crosshairs when they pull the big dog and step to the tee on at least two of the 14 par 4 holes on the course.
Short Par 4s Could Produce Fireworks
Most recreational golfers can identify with the feeling. They step to the tee box and know they have the shot in the bag. If squared up properly, they are looking at a short chip to the hole for what should become a short birdie putt.
If hit perfectly, or “nuked,” then the shot becomes table talk among golf buddies forever.
The ball flies through the air like a 747 taking off from the runway, climbing into what looks like an endless vortex, until it lands softly, with a generous bounce, and rolls further onto the green for an eagle putt.
That is the kind of shot PGA Tour fans could see this week.
No. 13 Is Begging to Be Attacked
This is bound to play out at least a few times over the course of the tournament, with a handful of these players capable of covering the shorter par 4s.
Hole No. 8 sits at roughly 350 yards from tee to green. Hole No. 13, however, is a downhill par 4 that measures just 337 yards.
That is a tempting distance for golfers of any level.
With the right conditions, the longest hitters in this field have a legitimate opportunity to take dead aim at the green. Someone is bound to put one on the putting surface, and while a hole in one on a par 4 is still a rarity, it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility.
There is no Scottie Scheffler this weekend, but the field is stacked, and the entertainment value is in absolute abundance for golf fans.
The Baycurrent Classic is a late season treat that you do not want to miss.
If you happen to see one of these guys step up on No. 13, pull the driver and decide to “nuke it,” you will definitely want to keep watching.
