When we're wrong, we say so.
The Cover publishes factual analysis. When we make a factual error, we correct it in the article and log the correction here. Predictions and opinions are not corrections — a losing pick is not an error, it's a pick that lost. But a wrong career-average stat, a misattributed quote, or a misspelled name is.
How to submit a correction
Email [email protected] with the article URL, the specific claim you believe is incorrect, and a source we can verify against. We respond to every correction request within 48 hours, usually within 24. If we agree the article contains a factual error, we correct the article and log the correction on this page.
How we handle corrections
When we correct an article, three things happen:
- The article body is edited to show the correct information, with a corrected timestamp appended to the top of the piece.
- A brief correction note is added at the top of the article explaining what was changed and when.
- Significant corrections (material change to a claim, retraction of a prediction rationale, factual error that affected the article's conclusion) are logged in the corrections log below.
Minor corrections (typos, name spelling, formatting) are made silently without a log entry. Only substantive corrections make it to the log so it stays a meaningful record.
What counts as a correction
A correction is a fix for a factual error: a wrong statistic, a misattributed quote, a wrong career average, a misspelled name, a wrong team affiliation, a wrong date. Corrections are made regardless of whether the error affected the piece's conclusion.
A losing prediction is not a correction. Every pick we make is graded (or would have been graded before we deprecated the public ledger) — a pick that lost is data, not a mistake. Predictions and opinions aren't subject to correction unless the underlying factual basis was wrong.
