The Bengals, due to injuries to impact players, were arguably the most unpredictable team in the NFL last season. Now, in 2026, the market is expecting a major turnaround. After finishing 6-11 and missing the playoffs for a third consecutive season, the Bengals enter the year with a projected win total of 10.5, tied for one of the highest marks in the AFC. DraftKings currently has Cincinnati at +164 to win the AFC North, +850 to win the AFC and +1800 to win the Super Bowl, while the Bengals are -200 to make the playoffs. The Over 10.5 wins is currently priced at +115.

Those numbers tell an interesting story. The Bengals aren't being treated as a long shot anymore, but there is still a considerable gap between Cincinnati and the true Super Bowl favorites. If Joe Burrow stays healthy and the offseason investment in the defense pays off, however, the Bengals have a legitimate opportunity to close that gap.

Offensive Grade: A-

The Bengals' biggest advantage remains painfully obvious: Joe Burrow is one of the best quarterbacks in football.

Health is the obvious key factor. Burrow missed significant time in 2025, contributing to Cincinnati's disappointing 6-11 campaign, and the Bengals' fortunes have seemingly been tied to his availability more than almost any other team in the NFL. But when Burrow is healthy, the ceiling of this offense is enormous.

The quarterback has arguably the best receiving duo in football at his disposal. Ja'Marr Chase remains one of the most explosive offensive players in the league, while Tee Higgins gives Burrow a massive and reliable target on the opposite side. Chase led the NFL in targets last season and earned First-Team All-Pro honours, while Higgins made his first Pro Bowl after recording 59 receptions for 846 yards and 11 touchdowns. Both players are expected to be ready for the season opener despite dealing with minor injuries during preparation.

The Bengals also have a strong foundation in the running game. Chase Brown is coming off a breakout season and enters 2026 as the team's starting running back, with veteran Samaje Perine and rookie Tahj Brooks providing depth. Brown produced 1,456 yards from scrimmage in 2025, setting an NFL record for a Canadian-born player.

Perhaps most importantly, Cincinnati enters the season with continuity up front. Orlando Brown Jr. and Amarius Mims are expected to bookend an offensive line that also features Ted Karras at center, Dylan Fairchild at left guard and Dalton Risner at right guard. The Bengals' offensive line was the team's most stable unit in 2025 and returns largely intact.

There are few reasons to doubt the offense. If Burrow plays all 17 games, Cincinnati should once again be among the league leaders in passing production and scoring.

Defensive Grade: B+

The defensive unit that Cincinnati has assembled is impressive.

The Bengals spent aggressively rebuilding a defensive front that has been a major weakness during the team's recent struggles. The additions of Dexter Lawrence, Jonathan Allen and Boye Mafe completely change the complexion of the unit.

Lawrence is the headline addition. The three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle has been one of the NFL's most disruptive interior defenders, ranking among the league's leaders in pressures from the position over the past several seasons. Allen brings another proven interior pass rusher, while Mafe provides an explosive presence off the edge.

That gives defensive coordinator Al Golden a dramatically different group to work with. Lawrence and Allen can create pressure from the interior, while Mafe and Myles Murphy give Cincinnati legitimate options on the edge. The Bengals also have veteran depth behind their new stars, allowing Golden to rotate his defensive tackles and keep them fresh.

The concern is that Cincinnati did lose Trey Hendrickson, one of the league's premier pass rushers. That means the new-look defensive line isn't simply an upgrade at every position. The Bengals are betting that depth and interior dominance can replace the production they lose on the edge.

If that bet works, this defense could finally become good enough to complement Burrow rather than forcing the quarterback to win shootouts every Sunday.

And that is the real reason the Bengals are so interesting as a futures team.

The Bet: Over 10.5 Wins (+115)

This is where Cincinnati becomes a fascinating futures proposition.

A 10.5-win total is not cheap, especially for a team that finished 6-11 last season. But the Bengals don't need to become a completely different football team to cash the Over. They essentially need two things: Burrow stays healthy, and the defense becomes at the very least, adequate.

That's a very reasonable path to 11 wins.

The offensive talent is already there. Chase, Higgins and Burrow give Cincinnati one of the most dangerous passing attacks in football, while Brown provides enough versatility to keep defenses honest. Meanwhile, the offensive line enters the season with continuity.

The defense is the swing factor.

Cincinnati has invested heavily in fixing the exact area that has held the team back, adding Lawrence, Allen and Mafe to a unit that badly needed more disruption. The Bengals also enter 2026 with the third-easiest schedule according to ESPN's analysis, giving the team another reason to believe a significant turnaround is possible.

The market has already noticed. Cincinnati's win total moved from 9.5 earlier in the offseason to 10.5, while the Bengals' Super Bowl odds shortened from +2500 in February to +1800 and their AFC North odds moved from +210 to +164.

That creates an interesting question: has the market already caught up? It's possible.

+115 on Over 10.5 still provides enough value to take the chance that Burrow finally gets a healthy season, the defensive overhaul works and Cincinnati returns to the postseason.
