Two of the most exciting young arms in MLB will take to the mound as division rival Toronto will attempt to salvage one win in the final game of a three-game series in Yankee Stadium.

The consensus heading into the 2026 season was that Trey Yesavage and Cam Schlittler would ascend quickly to the front of their respective rotations. In the case of Schlittler, anyway, ascension is an understatement. He has catapulted his status among his American League peers, quite likely making him the early Cy Young favorite.

Cam Schlittler - Data Streak Player Card

Schlittler will start on Wednesday night as the odds-on favorite to once again stymie the Blue Jays ' offense, and generally keep the basepaths clear through his six or seven innings of work.

The Blue Jays are familiar with Schlittler, and the memories are not fond ones. During the 2025 ALDS, Schlittler left the Jays' attack mystified with triple-digit heat and an unexpected ability to locate and change speeds.

Schlittler, along with Aaron Judge, came close to beating the Jays in that epic series. If not for the Yankees' atrocious defense in what proved to be key moments, the Jays might have had a much different outcome in the 2025 playoffs.

Conversely, the Jays' young thoroughbred pitcher and 2024 first-round pick, Yesavage, brought a pitching style and repertoire that almost embarrassed the Yankees' lineup.

Trey Yesavage - Data Streak Player Card

He struck out six straight batters en route to sealing a Jays victory in his first ALDS start. His legendary performance is cemented in the annals of Blue Jays folklore forever.

Now, in 2026, Schlittler and the Yankees appear to have the early advantage, but Yesavage is a very interesting play and pick.

This is a head-to-head pitching match-up that should capture the attention of baseball fans far and wide.
